Ms. Kenney's April 19 Newsletter

April 22, 2024

Dear Swift Families,

Don’t forget to keep an eye on the school and district website for many events and important dates happening throughout the year!

Before and After School Supervision

With the return of nicer weather, we have noticed a number of students arriving at school early in the morning on their own and staying long after school without a caring adult. Please remember that supervision runs from 8:15 until the morning bell, and afterschool until 2:40.

Dogs on School Property

In recent weeks we have noticed more dogs on the school ground at drop off and pick-up. Please be reminded that dogs – regardless of size are NOT permitted on school grounds – this is for student safety and security. If you want to add a dog walk to your pickup and drop off routine, please say good-bye or hello off the school grounds. Thank you for your cooperation.

Bikes, Scooters and Helmets

The sun is shining, and bikes and scooters are back! We are asking you, as parents/guardians, to help us out. We love seeing kids actively arriving to school – please remind your kids that once they are on school property we ask that they walk their bikes and scooters. Also, please be sure to send them with their helmets!

Summer Explorers – Registration open until April 26th

Families interested in Summer Explorers should register as soon as possible. Registration closes on April 26th. Visit the Summer School Registration Page for information and to secure your child’s spot.

Volunteering & Upcoming Field Trips

With many field trips on the horizon, there will be plenty of volunteer opportunities. Just a reminder that all volunteers need a completed Criminal Record Check – this is done through the School Board Office, and an Annual Volunteer Form which can be completed at the office.

All information about volunteering can be found on our website.

Please keep an eye on your SchoolCash account for field trip permission forms and payment – there are many trips on the horizon.

PAC News

Save the Date! The Swift Family Carnival is coming up on June 7th! We are looking forward to a great night of family fun. Many volunteers are needed to make the Carnival a success – volunteer sign up is coming soon!

May 23rd is the PAC AGM. All executive positions are up for re-election this year. If you are interested in self-nominating or nominating someone else for one of the positions, please contact Tasha Mash directly. Position descriptors can be found in the PAC Constitution and Bylaws. Minutes from the April meeting are available on the school website.

Our last Panago fundraiser is coming soon – keep an eye out for information next week!

Strong Start – Nature Thursdays are Back!

Meet at the Bateman Park Playground at 8:50, the Nature Walk will start at 9:00. Strong Start continues as usual the rest of the week.

Clayburn Information for Grade 5 Students

Registration information for Clayburn Middle School should have arrived home in backpacks this week. ALL grade 5s are asked to complete the first page of the package – those not going to Clayburn don’t need to do more than that. Those who ARE going to Clayburn must complete the rest of the package. Please return it to Ms. Froese or Ms. Virtue/Mrs. M as soon as possible. If your child is interested in Band, registration forms will be sent home shortly.

Kindergarten and New Student (Gr. 1-5) Registration Is Ongoing

Registration for those starting Kindergarten or who will be new to Swift in grades 1-5 in September is open. There are a variety of ways to register, please see our website for information.

Please spread the word around the community - the sooner families register, the better. It is very helpful having accurate numbers when we begin planning for next year.
