Kindergarten Gradual Entry Info

Information for New Kindergarten Families

Dear Parents/Guardians 

Welcome to Kindergarten. We are looking forward to meeting you in September and starting the school year. We hope you are too! The regular hours for all classes are 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. The Welcome Bell rings at 8:25 am.

You will have received a letter in the beginning of July with information regarding the teacher you will connect with during the gradual entry days. Please note: This does not necessarily mean this will be your child’s classroom/teacher. Class assignments will be finalized after the Gradual Entry days have been completed.

The first two weeks of school in September are very special for Kindergarten students. With this in mind, we have arranged a gradual entry schedule for the children to make a smooth transition to the full-day Kindergarten program. Here is a link to the Gradual Entry Calendar on our website.

Each child gets an individual Interview Time on the following dates: Wednesday, September 7, Thursday, September 8 and Friday, September 9. We will be using “School Appointments” to book your appointments. Register following the these instructions, follow the prompts and book your appointment by September 6. Please Remember!!

**Nature K students please bring your out door clothing and boots to the Interview for your teacher to approve. Please leave the tags on in the event that you need to return them. We care that your child is warm and dry during outdoor classroom time.

Tuesday, September 6 to Friday, September 9 (Days 1–4):

Day 1: Parent and Kindergarten student meeting with the teacher from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.
Day 2-4: These days are set aside for scheduled 15 minute individual interviews. Please bring your child to the meeting with your teacher. Please remember to book your appointment. Please do not bring preschoolers to your interview with the teacher.

Monday, September 12 to Thursday, September 15 - Small Group Gradual Attendance (Days 5–8):

Each Day children will attend in 2 groups of 10 students. A unique schedule has been sent to you with the July mailout for your child only. If you  Please bring ALL school supplies on Day 5.

Labeling Supplies:
Please label only the following items: Pencils, crayons, pencil crayons, pencil sharpener, white board markers, erasers.
The other items will be labeled by the teacher.

Label ALL outdoor gear – Jackets, pants, boots, fleece.

Friday, September 16 – Tuesday, September 20

Full Class Attendance – Part time - See Schedule
Each day All kindergarten students will be attending class. They will start at 8:30 am every day. This schedule is for every kindergarten child. Please send snacks and lunches as listed below.

Day 9 - Friday, September 17 – 8:30 – 11:00 am – Bring a Healthy, Nut Free Snack
Day 10 - Monday, September 20 – 8:30 - 12:15 pm – Bring a Healthy, Nut Free snack and lunch
Day 11 - Tuesday, September 21 – 8:30 – 1:00 pm – Bring a Healthy, Nut Free snack and lunch

Wednesday, September 21 and onward – All Attend Full Day

Day 12 – Starting today, ALL Kindergarten students will attend for a Regular, Full Day of school (8:30 am to 2:30 pm). A nut-free snack and lunch should be sent with your child from this day forward.

School Supplies

If you have not already ordered your school supplies online, please do so at your earliest convenience. Go to , Register and Login to order for Dr. Thomas A Swift “Nature Kindergarten”. All Kindergarten supply kits are delivered to your home. If you wish, you can also take the list available on our website ( and purchase from the store.

Labeling Supplies: Please label only the following items: Pencils, crayons, pencil crayons, pencil sharpener, white board markers, erasers. The other items will be labeled by the teacher.

All Kindergarten students need a full-sized backpack, inside running shoes that are Velcro (not tie shoes, please), and a lunch kit. Please clearly label all clothing and lunch kit items.

Nature Kindergarten children need to purchase the specific items on the additional list and bring all those items on Wednesday, September 14. Label ALL outdoor gear – Jackets, pants, boots, fleece, etc. 

School Lunches

As much as possible, please pack a litter-less lunch. Please only send a water bottle with your child. We do not encourage any type of drink box. Please provide any utensils your child might need to eat their lunch. We do not provide utensils for students. There is no access to a microwave for heating food.
Our school is Nut Aware. Please do NOT send any nuts or nut products to school. Please use “Wow Butter” or other seed butters in place of peanut butter and let the teacher know.

Please be sure to register on SchoolCash Online if you haven’t already done so. Here is the info link on our website: This is a requirement of all Abbotsford School District students. If you need help with setting up your account, please call the office.

**Please remember to Log in to “School Appointments” to book your individual interview time with your child’s teacher. This is an important part of starting Kindergarten.
