Ms. Kenney's October 11 Newsletter

October 17, 2024

Dear Swift Families,

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, we all hope you have time to enjoy time with family, friends and those you love. We will see you Tuesday, October 15th.

Rainy Days and Extra Clothes

Fall days are here which means the weather is going to change. Please send your kids to school ready to be outside for recess and lunch – we go out in all weather conditions unless it is incredibly stormy! It is always a good idea to have an extra pair of socks and pants in backpacks – wet feet and wet pants aren’t a lot of fun. While we have some extras at school, we save them for those unexpected bathroom accidents, not puddle fun!

School Photo Ordering

School photo proofs are ready for viewing online. Please enter your email address and password as listed on your child’s photo card. The password is your child’s pupil number. Orders placed before November 15th will be delivered before Christmas. Orders placed after this time will not be guaranteed to arrive in time for the holidays. Any questions you might have about photos should be directed to hello@paramountportraits.com

Parent Teacher Interviews & Early Dismissal

October 23rd and 24th  are Parent Teacher Interviews. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and share with them important information they might not yet know about your child. On interview days students will be dismissed at 11:45.

Interviews can be booked online, starting Tuesday October 15th. Information on how to set up an account can be found here.  Interview times are:
Wednesday, October 23 - 12:45 pm - 2:30 pm (end of last appointment) and 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm (end of last appointment).
Thursday, October 24 - 12:45 pm - 2:30 pm (end of last appointment).

Scholastic Book Fair – October 22-24

We are excited to have the Scholastic Book Fair back this year! It will be open before and after school, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and during Parent Teacher Interviews on Wednesday evening! The Book Fair will be open:
October 22 – 8:00 – 8:30, 2:30 – 3:00
October 23 – 8:00 – 8:30, 11:45 – 12:15, 12:45 – 2:30, 4:30 – 7:30
October 24 – 8:00 – 8:30, 11:45 – 12:15, 12:45 – 2:30

All of our teachers love getting new books! If you would like to buy a book or two for their classes, you can purchase a book, add a label, and we will be sure to pass along your classroom gift!

Payment can be made with Debit or Credit cards. Cash and Cheques will not be accepted.

Cuddle Up and Read

Mrs. Thurmer is looking for parents or grandparents who would like to “cuddle up and read” with students. This is an opportunity to support some of our kids who need a little boost in reading or just some extra time supporting their reading development. If you are interested in helping, and have a completed Criminal Record Check, please email Mrs. Thurmer.

Terry Fox Run – Well done!

A huge thank you to the parents and grandparents that came and volunteered for our Terry Fox Run. We braved the rain, just like Terry, and had a wonderful event. Thank you to Mrs. M for organizing. As a school community we beat our fundraising goal and raised more that $1400.00 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Well done! The prize of an extra recess will happen soon!

School Cash Account, Field Trips and Volunteering

Please be sure to set up your School Cash account. Each child needs to be added to your account. All school-based payments are made here, and all permission forms will be completed here as well. If you haven’t yet set up your account or need a refresher, information is on the website.

Please check your school cash account to pay and give permission for upcoming field trips. If there are any financial concerns, please connect with Ms. Kenney, and we are happy to help cover the cost of field trips where needed.
