Swift News - September 10
Dear Swift Families,
Week 1 is in the books!
It was so great seeing everyone back, healthy, safe and hearing of many summer adventures! The Swift community has amazed me with the care everyone shows to each other. We have had a great time welcoming new many community members, and they have been swooped up with friends and taken off! We are all excited for a new school year!
Class Lists
Class lists for grades 1-5 will be posted after 6:00 today on the front of the school. Kindergarten class lists will be finalized at the end of the first week of gradual entry. We ask that you please do not post pictures of these lists on any social media sites or send them (text, messenger, email, etc.) to any other families. Any of these actions are in violation of FOIPA law.
There is a considerable amount of work that goes into creating class lists. Many factors are considered including gender balance, academic needs and strengths, peer dynamics and overall school and classroom structure. The thought that teachers put into these lists is immense and we appreciate parents not asking for changes. Because we have added many new students we are a very full 15 Divisions:
Division 1 – Ms. Froese Division 9 – Ms. Stroet & Mrs. Schultz
Division 2 – Ms. Miettinen & To Be Announced Division 10 – Mrs. Morgante
Division 3 – Mrs. Brennan Division 11 – Mrs. Hickey
Division 4 – Mrs. Jones Division 12 – Ms. Mantta
Division 5 – Mrs. Spenard Division 13 – Mrs. Dueck
Division 6 – Mrs. Crocker Division 14 – Mrs. Baerg
Division 7 – Ms. O’Donnell Division 15 – Mrs. Nicholls
Division 8 – Mrs. Katan & Mrs. Torok
We are excited to welcome Ms. O’Donnell to Swift and at the same time are sad to see Ms. Mann go, but wish her well as she starts a new adventure at Dormick Park. We are in the process of hiring our last teacher. This person will be in place by mid-week next week, there will be a short-term teacher in place until that time, welcoming, teaching and supporting the students in Division 2 along with Ms. Miettinen.
We will have many combined classes this year. Please be assured that they will receive instruction and curriculum for their grade level and will be assessed at the appropriate grade level. Being positive about school is the most important contributor to ensuring your child’s success.
Forms, Forms, Forms!
On Monday you will be receiving our annual form package and other important information. Please be on the look out in back packs!
Our PAC will also be sending out information to get the year started!
Parking and Being Good Neighbours
While we understand that parking can be tricky – we must be good neighbours! Please ensure you are:
Not blocking driveways in the cul-del-sacs or on nearby roads. City bylaw states that there must be at least 1.5 meters of clearance to a driveway
Not double parking in the cul-de-sacs
Not parking in the Drop-Off Lane – this is for dropping off and picking up students – please do not leave your car if you are in this lane.
Volunteering – Don’t Forget!
With schools returning to more normal activities, we are excited to welcome volunteers back! Please be sure you visit https://swift.abbyschools.ca/Volunteers to get all the information. ALL volunteers must have a completed Criminal Record Check before volunteering – this can take time – please don’t wait to complete it! (Once completed these are good for 5 years).
Summer Reading Challenge!
If you completed the summer reading challenge don’t forget to bring your sheets into school. They can be handed in at the office until September 15th.
Have a great weekend, we look forward to seeing you on Monday!
