Ms. Kenney's Final Newsletter of the Year

June 30, 2023

Dear Swift Families,

From all of us, to all of you, Happy Summer! Thank you for another great year of learning and growing together, we couldn’t do it without your continued support.

The end of the year always brings a few “farewells” – this year is no different. We wish Ms. O’Doherty, Mrs. Poonian, Ms. Kaur, Mrs. Belsher and Mrs. Ehman well as they take off on a new adventure. Thank you for all you have done at Swift. We will miss you.

Summer Reading Challenge

We are excited to have the “Swift Summer Reading Challenge” back for another year! A copy was included in all Kindergarten – Grade 4 report cards. In case it gets lost, it is attached here and will also be added to the school website. The Reading Challenge ends on September 15th! Incoming Ks are welcome to participate with their older siblings, the more the merrier!

The Fraser Valley Regional Library also offers great summer reading opportunities for all students. Information about the reading fun offered at the library this summer is available at: https://www.fvrl.bc.ca/summer_reading_clubs.php There is something for everyone here – even adults!

Summer Strong Start & Summer Ready Set Learn

Summer Strong Start is being offered on Mondays and Thursdays throughout July and August at Sweeney Neighbour Center. There will also be Summer Ready Set Learn sessions offered in parks around the city. Both programs are for parents & children ages 0 -6 – please see the Abbotsford Early Years website for more information.

Summer Office Hours

The office will be open tomorrow and next week – July 4-7th from 8:30 – 3:00. Please call before coming by the school. There are no guarantees we will be right at the office as there are many year end tasks to complete around the building, and the front doors will be locked.
The office will be closed from July 8th – August 27th and will re-open on August 28th. Office hours will from 8:30 – 3:00 until school restarts.

School Supplies for the 2023-2024 School Year

Supply lists and ordering information is available on the website. Ordering is done through SchoolStart directly and shipped to home if you choose this method.
There are draws and bonuses throughout the summer for ordering – first draw is July 18th!

See you in September!

A ‘welcome back’ email will be sent the last week of August with information about the first week of school. Information about class lists will be in that email. Students who will be in Nature Grade 1 will receive and email in early July. As noted earlier this year, not all requests for Nature Grade 1 will be possible.

The first day of school for Grades 1-5 is September 5th – this will be a half day with dismissal at 11:30.

For students starting Kindergarten, a mailout will be sent to all families in July with specific information about Kindergarten start up.

If you know of new neighbourhood kids who need to register for September, please encourage them to check the website and/or email swift@abbyschools.ca, this email will be checked periodically throughout the summer.

Have a wonderful summer!
