Ms. Kenney's June 2 Newsletter

June 6, 2023

Dear Swift Families,

It seems almost surreal that we are entering our last 4 weeks of school – on the other hand, so much has happened this year, everyone is ready for summer. We thank you for your continued support as we finish out the year.

Thank You & PAC News!

What a great time was had at the PAC Family Carnival last night! A huge thank you to the many hands that made it such a wonderful night! An event like this takes many hours of behind the scenes work – it couldn’t happen without your help!

Also, at our last PAC Meeting the executive for next year was elected. A big thank you to our outgoing treasurer Laurel Ball, and a huge welcome to the new treasurer Stefanie Friend!

The last Hot Lunch of the year will be on June 16th, this pizza lunch is paid for by the PAC. Please be sure to place your orders on the Hot Lunch site by June 7th – any students without orders will have a cheese pizza ordered for them.

Fun Day – June 16

We are looking forward to a fun morning outside with many fun activities! Many thanks to those parents who will help us out that day! Our incredible PAC will be providing a pizza lunch, and recess snack on Fun Day. Please be sure to dress your child for the weather – sun, rain, wind – who knows what we’re in for!

We will be starting with the “Super Hero Dance” as a whole school, then students will be rotating through different stations with their classes for the remainder of the morning. Parents are invited to come and watch the fun, we do ask that unless you have been specifically asked to be with a class, you are watching from the blacktop. We hope to get started as soon as the dust settles with arrival and morning attendance.

A notice or note in your child’s planner will be coming home shortly indicating what “colour team” they will be on. We encourage them to dress up in that colour!

Dogs on School Grounds

With the nicer weather returning we have noticed an increase in your pups visiting the school grounds. Please be reminded that all Abbotsford school properties are “dog free”. If you are using the walk to and from school as a break for your dog, please pick a place of property to meet.

Lawn Mowing Safety

Our District Grounds Team does a wonderful job keeping our school grounds looking great. They, like everyone, want to be able to do their job safely. We ask that if they are on the field during morning arrival or dismissal that students please stay away from their equipment.

Lost and Found – New items!

Please take a peek at the Lost and Found listed on the website. There are many items missing their home – if something is yours, please let us know so it can be returned. These items will be donated the first week in July.
You are welcome to come and look in the bin for any further lost items – please check in at the office if you’re coming to look!

School Supplies for the 2023-2024 School Year

It’s hard to believe that we’re talking about next year…but, we are! Supply lists and ordering information is available on the website. Ordering is done through SchoolStart directly and shipped to home if you choose this method.

Volunteers

With many field trips and events on the horizon, we would like to remind all parents (and grandparents!) that a Criminal Record Check (good for 5 years once complete) and Annual Volunteer Application must be completed in order to volunteer – all information & forms can be found on our website. This is even a great time to get your Record Check done to be ready for next year!

Check Your SchoolCash Account

Please help us keep our accounting up to date and check your SchoolCash accounts. Any outstanding fees will be visible on your account. We have many field trips coming up throughout the remainder of the year – please keep an eye on your account.
Field trip forms are also completed on SchoolCash – be sure to check if you know of an upcoming field trip.
If you do not have a SchoolCash account information to make one can be found here.

Let’s Be Good Neighbours

We received a call this week from one of our neighbours concerned that they could not safely back out of their driveway due to it being partially blocked.  This continues to be a frustration for those who live closest to the school. We have advised them to call By-Law to have someone come to monitor the area during the morning and after school rush.

To avoid any unpleasant surprises, please ensure you are:

  • Following City By-Laws - Not blocking driveways in the cul-del-sacs or on nearby roads. City bylaw states that there must be at least 1.5 meters of clearance to a driveway. There should also be no double parking. (For City Bylaws please go to: https://www.abbotsford.ca/city-services/bylaw-services).

For more “Parking 101” information please go to the our school website. Thank you for your helping keeping the neighbourhood safe.
