Ms. Kenney's May 8 Newsletter
Dear Swift Families,
Many field trips are coming up before the end of the year – please keep an eye on your SchoolCash account for payment and permission. If you need any financial assistance, please let Ms. Kenney know directly and we will make arrangements together to cover the cost.
There are so many beautiful things in our lost and found looking for their home! Mrs. Dahl updated the Lost and Found items over Spring Break – please take a peek! Please also come and check the Blue Bin located next to the office – ALL Lost and Found will be donated at the end of the year. Thanks to those families who came and checked things out this week!
May-lloween – BC Children’s Hospital Fundraiser – May 14th
Division 4 is planning an exciting day for the whole school – May-lloween – think Halloween in May! On May 14th, students will be encouraged to come to school in costume in support of BC Children’s Hospital.
As a class, they have decided to support a classmate who is currently using BC Children's, and want to include the whole school, as they realize that many children at our school have been treated there. It is always exciting when we see the initiative of our kids to help one another, and we know that the whole Swift community will pull together for a fun day!
Students will be asked to donate $4 to wear their favourite costume (no inflatable costumes please!) for a great cause. Please see the attached poster for more information.
PAC News
Thank you to all that supported our 2nd Annual Book Sale on May 4th. It was, once again, a great success, with all $1131 raised benefiting every child at Swift!
The spring Carnival is coming up fast on June 5th! Admission to the event is FREE, however a ticket is required to participate in all the activities and attractions. Early bird tickets are available to purchase NOW on the Hot Lunch site. Tickets will be available at the gate but save some money and grab yours in advance! Many volunteers are needed for the Carnival to run as well. If enough parents don't volunteer (even for short 45-minute shifts) then we must pull stations, and we don't want to do that! Volunteer Sign-Up will be coming next week! Let's make this event an unbelievable memory for the kids.
Please note the last day to order Hot Lunch for May 22nd, is on May 12th. All hot lunches are ordered through the Hot Lunch site.
Our PAC AGM is on Thursday May 21st at 7:00pm. Are you interested in a representative or executive position? Email taswiftpac@gmail.com for more information or to nominate yourself. Elections will happen at the AGM for executive positions. Come vote and have your voice heard! Keep up to date at www.taswiftpac.com
District Communication Survey
We’re inviting families to take part in a short Parent Engagement Survey to share their experiences with school and district communications. Your input will help us better understand what’s working well and where there may be opportunities to strengthen connection and support. Thank you for taking a few minutes to share your thoughts with us. The survey is open until May 31st.
Class Requests 2026-2027, Moving, and Ongoing Registration
If you are interested in placing a class request for the 2026 -2027 school year, please see information on the website, the form is now open and will remain open until May 23rd. Please know that making class lists is a complex process, and while we will take your request into consideration, we cannot guarantee that all requests can or will be met.
If you have moved, are moving, or are not planning on returning to Swift next year, please let us know. This helps a great deal with our planning as we move forward.
Also, registration for next year is ongoing. If you know anyone who needs to register, please ask them to do so soon!
Bikes, Scooters, Helmets and Fence Jumping
The sun is shining, and bikes and scooters are back! We are asking you, as parents/guardians, to help us out. We love seeing kids actively arriving to school – please remind your kids that once they are on school property, we ask that they walk their bikes and scooters. Also, please be sure to send them with their helmets!
We have had several concerns brought forward recently of kids jumping the fences around the playground before and after school. They all know that those areas are out of bounds. Please help us keep the hills from eroding by not letting them jump the fences when playing before and after school.
Dogs at School – A Reminder
As the warmer weather comes, a dog walk to and from school might seem like a great idea. Please be reminded that dogs – regardless of size are NOT permitted on school grounds. If you want to add a dog walk to your pickup and drop off routine, please say good-bye or hello off the school grounds. Thank you for your cooperation.
Parking 101
Please remember and remind family members who do pick up and drop off that when using the “Drop Off Lane” you may not park and get out of your car. Please help the traffic keep flowing. And, while things have been better in recent weeks, we continue to hear from our neighbours that members of our school community are blocking driveways, double parking, and most recently moving garbage cans to create more parking spaces. Please show our best selves, to the rest of the community.
