Ms. Kenney's October 27 Newsletter

October 30, 2023

Dear Swift Families,

Please be sure to stay up to date by reading the bi-weekly news and checking the school website! We keep the calendar as up to date as we can for school wide event!

Thank you to our school community – we have 100% of students and families registered on SchoolCash – this is a huge achievement!

Halloween
With Halloween just around the corner we would like to send a couple of reminders. Students are welcome to wear their costumes or orange and black to school on Tuesday – please do not send weapons, masks or any pieces that might get lost. Also, please be sure that costumes are school appropriate.
While the days following Halloween are exciting, and treats are enticing, we ask that the number of treats be kept to a minimum in school lunches.

Cuddle Up and Read
Mrs. Thurmer is looking for parents (or grandparents !) who would like to “cuddle up and read” with students. This is an opportunity to support some of our kids who need a little boost in reading or just some extra time supporting their reading development. If you are interested in helping, and have a completed Criminal Record Check, please email Mrs. Thurmer at gwen.thurmer@abbyschools.ca

Welcome Ms. Pauls!
We are excited to welcome Ms. Tanisha Pauls to Swift as our indigenous Support Worker while Mrs. Marr is on leave. Ms. Pauls will be at Swift Monday, Thursday, and Friday. We wish Ms. Marr well, and hope to see her back at Swift soon!

Lost and Found
Our lost and found is filled with many wonderful items looking for their home! Please head over to the website and check out what is there. If something looks familiar, please follow the instructions on the website.

Dogs at School – A Reminder
In recent weeks we have noticed more dogs on the school ground at drop off and pick-up. Please be reminded that dogs – regardless of size are NOT permitted on school grounds. If you want to add a dog walk to your pick up and drop off routine, please say good-bye or hello off of the school grounds. Thank you for your cooperation.

Parking 101
While things have been better in recent weeks, we continue to hear from our neighbours that members of our school community are blocking driveways, double parking, and most recently moving garbage cans to create more parking spaces. Please show our best selves, to the rest of the community.
