Ms. Kenney's February 16th Newsletter

February 22, 2023

Dear Swift Families,

It was wonderful seeing so many parents in celebrating the successes of their children – there is always something to celebrate. As we finish off term 2 this is a great time to sit down and set goals for the remainder of the year. Term 3 always flies by in no time at all!
Wishing you all a wonderful Family Day weekend!

Registration for 2023-24 – ON NOW!

Registration is now open for K-Gr. 5. There are a variety of ways to access all the information and to register, please see our website for information to register. https://swift.abbyschools.ca/kindergarten
Please spread the word around the community - the sooner families register, the better. It is very helpful having accurate numbers when we begin planning for next year. https://swift.abbyschools.ca/RegistrationGr1-5

Out of Catchment Requests

Those students who live outside of the Swift catchment, must complete the Out of Catchment process if they wish to stay here next year. This is an annual process. The Out of Catchment forms have been sent home and are now being accepted at the office. The deadline for Out of Catchment forms is February 28th. The first Out of Catchment review will be the first week of March.

Jump Rope for Heart – February 24th

Next week is our Jump Rope for Heart event. Don’t forget to bring your loonies or toonies to school. There is also an online option if you choose to donate directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation – donations made to this link help us meet our school goal!
Don’t forget to wear your red Swift shirt or other Swift wear for our Jump Rope day!

PAC Updates

Panago Pizza coupons are for sale, $14 for any medium pizza, on the Hot Lunch website. Login just as you would to order hot lunch. There are only 200 coupons to order!
The next PAC meeting is on February 23rd at 7:00pm. We would love to see you there.

Dogs at School – A Reminder

In recent weeks we have noticed more dogs on the school ground at drop off and pick-up. Please be reminded that dogs – regardless of size - are NOT permitted on school grounds. If you want to add a dog walk to your pick up and drop off routine, please say good-bye or hello off of the school grounds. Thank you for your cooperation and to the many families who have been working to make this happen.

Parking and Being Good Neighbours

We have noticed some problems creeping up again with parking and the drop-off lane. While we understand that parking can be tricky – we must be good neighbours & courteous to each other – remember, little eyes and ears are always watching and listening. Kids see and hear everything!
Please ensure you are:

  • Following City By-Laws - Not blocking driveways in the cul-del-sacs or on nearby roads. City bylaw states that there must be at least 1.5 meters of clearance to a driveway. There should also be no double parking. (For City Bylaws please go to: https://www.abbotsford.ca/city-services/bylaw-services
  • Not parking in the Drop-Off Lane – this is for dropping off and picking up students – please do not leave your car if you are in this lane. Do NOT pick up or drop off in the fire lane.
  • Turning off your Engine while parked - Young Lungs at Work - we would like to remind you that areas around the school are “idle free zones”. If you’re waiting in the Drop-Off Lane, or are parked close by, please turn off your car – help our kids’ little lungs…and the environment!

We thank you for your support.
