Swift News - September 29
Dear Swift Families,
Where did September go?
It’s hard to believe that a month of school is already behind us. Learning is humming along, and routines are nicely established. October brings us a chance to meet with all parents at Parent Teacher Interviews later in the month – information will be sent home shortly about the process for booking interviews.
We would like to take this (early) chance to wish everyone a safe and healthy Thanksgiving next weekend. Enjoy this time with family and friends.
School Photos – October 4th!
Individual and class photos will be taken on October 4th. Important information about preparation and ordering can be found on our website at https://swift.abbyschools.ca/events/school-photo-day-12 All ordering will be completed online this year. Students who are away on October 4th will have the chance to have their photos taken on October 14th.
PAC Hot Lunch – Orders due this Wednesday!
Don’t forget that our first hot lunch is on October 14th. The last day to order and pay for your lunch is October 5th. All information for ordering can be found on the website at: https://swift.abbyschools.ca/parents-students/pac/hot-lunch
Terry Fox Run – Friday!
We are looking forward to our Terry Fox Run on Friday. Many thanks to the parents who have volunteered to help – we couldn’t do it without you. Don’t forget to send your kids in their red Swift shirts for the run. We will continue our Two-nies for Terry collection this week. Mrs. M has done a great job organizing – thank you Mrs. M!
Strong Start is Back!
We are excited that Strong Start is back up and running for another year. Ms. Lise had a busy room this week! Just a reminder that Thursdays will continue to be a nature focus and the group will meet at 9:00 in the Upper Parking Lot of Bateman Park. More Strong Start information can be found on our website at https://swift.abbyschools.ca/programs/strongstart/newinfo
Fruit and Veggie Program (and Milk too!)
The Fruit, Veggie and Milk program has returned! This program is provided to all students through the BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation and gives students a chance to enjoy a variety of fruits and veggies and milk throughout the year. All dates are on the website calendar. Please note – if your child has food or milk allergies, or if you do not want them to participate, please complete the reverse consent (https://swift.abbyschools.ca/fruitandveggie) and return it to school – if you already have – thank you!
Dogs on School Grounds
This is a reminder that dogs should not be on school grounds. It has been noted over the past couple of weeks that dogs have been around the playground and on the field during drop-off and pick-up. If you enjoy a walk with your dog during these times, please choose to drop off and meet your child off the school grounds.
Thank you for your cooperation and help in keeping the school yard dog free.
Parking and Being Good Neighbours
While we understand that parking can be tricky – we must be good neighbours! Please ensure you are:
Not blocking driveways in the cul-del-sacs or on nearby roads. City bylaw states that there must be at least 1.5 meters of clearance to a driveway
Not double parking in the cul-de-sacs
Not parking in the Drop-Off Lane – this is for dropping off and picking up students – please do not leave your car if you are in this lane.
