Dear Swift Families,

May has arrived – it is so hard to believe that the end of the school year is just around the corner. It is common this time of year for us to see more unexpected behaviours from students. We appreciate your continued support with reminders of what is expected – also a good night’s sleep always helps!

Students from Abbotsford brought home 5 medals from the Skills Canada BC Provincial Competition, which took place on April 19, 2023, at the Tradex. The competition featured students from across the province showcasing their skills in trades, serving as the next round of competitions following the regionals held in early March. From Electrical Wiring, Carpentry, Automotive Service, and TV and Film, students successfully demonstrated their expertise, showcased their mastery of the trade and highlighted their creative talents.

Smile Cookie Week is here, with Tim Hortons announcing that the annual campaign will take place from May 1 – 7 in communities nationwide. In Abbotsford, 100% of the proceeds collected from the sale of the iconic pink and blue smile cookies will go directly to the Abbotsford School District’s “Back to School” event, providing students and families who need extra support with a backpack of school supplies, hygiene products, and food hampers.

Congratulations to our April Star Students! Their Certificates are on the display board for all to see. May is our last Star Student Month so if your child has not yet received a Star Student Certificate, there is still one month to go. All Swift Students are Stars and get a chance to be on our display board.

The March Star Students will have their celebration day on Tuesday, May 9.

Following a comprehensive search process, the Abbotsford Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Nosek to the position of Superintendent of Schools & CEO for the Abbotsford School District.

While we hope that sunny beautiful weather is around the corner – please remember to continue to send clothes for rainy weather – we know the rain isn’t over yet! There are many days where we have wet kids because they don’t have their gear with them. Please help them remember to bring it along as they leave the house in the morning.

Welcome back! It has been wonderful to see everyone back and hear laughter in the hallways. As we begin Term 3, it is a great time to set new goals to finish off this school year.

In accordance with the School Act, the Abbotsford Board of Education must approve a balanced budget by June 30th each year. The Abbotsford School District is currently preparing its budget for the 2023-24 school year and is inviting employees, families and community members to share their voice in the consultation process.
