Parent Letter June 2021

Hi there Swift Families,

Here we are looking at the beginning of June and only one month of school left till summer. This has been a long and arduous year in many ways as well as a year of growth and change and good things for many of our Swift staff and families.

Congratulations to our April Star Students. Their certificates are up on the wall and they will get their Star Student Celebration on June 1st.

Hey parents and kids!

In the event that the weather is not cooperative for this out door event, we will postpone it to April 30th.

Division 1, Ms. Froese's class, has been busy at work with dioramas and art work. 

The Grade 4's projects are about bio-diversity and the Grade 5's projects are about natural resourses. They clearly have spent a good many hours researching and working on this. Congratulations Div 1!

Div 1 also did an art project reusing plastic waterbottles that resulted in a very beautiful cascade of colour.

Since our little forest has taken a hit from older children playing roughly with our young trees, Mrs. Hickey's class spent some time today nurturing their little tree souls. The children each found a little tree to sit by and read a book to the trees. Surely with this kind of love and care, our little forest will grow up strong and proud.

Things got a little smelly at Swift today as Mrs. Hickey and her students finished up their Exploration of Skunk Cabbage with a dissection of plants. The class has gone for walks to Bateman Park and Palfry Park to discover where skunk cabbage grows and where it does not grow. They have learned the names of the different parts of the plant and what they do. They also learned that bears and deer eat the smelly skunk cabbage as it is the first tender green plant in the forest in spring.

New Staff

Please welcome Nicole Teillet as the acting VP and grade 4/5, Division 2, teacher replacing Ms. Lorieau for the remainder of the school year.
Please welcome Warren Thiessen replacing Mrs. Britton in the grade 4/5, Division 4 for the remainder of the school year.
We wish Ms. Lorieau and Mrs. Britton all the best as the await the arrival of their new babies.

Congratulations to our March Star Students!! As we know, all of our Swift Students ROCK! but March is the month for these students to shine!

The Abbotsford Board of Education regularly meets throughout the school year. Agendas and minutes from the public Board Meetings can be accessed through the District's Electronic School Board. Below is a summary of highlights from the meeting. To do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and for everyone's safety, all public meetings of the Abbotsford Board of Education will be closed to the public and held virtually until further notice. The meetings will also be live-streamed.
